Hello, I installed Lemmy a while ago only to realise it is Piefed that I want to use. Are there any migration paths?
I don’t host any communities and I’m the only user. There are no images to migrate. Only need to migrate my replies and subscriptions. :)
We plan to work on a possible migration script or so at the end of the year. But it will take time and I am really not an expert on these things. If you want to help out investigating the database structure etc. you are more than welcome.
I am currently thinking that a stand alone python script to copy over the data from a Lemmy database to a fresh Piefed instance would be the best, but migrating the pictures from Pictrs would be another problem then…
I don’t know anything about databases, unfortunately. Though I’d happily test the script with my simple setup, as I have neither communities not images. :D

One day it will be possible and we’ve done the background research to confirm that but it’s not being actively worked on at the moment.
For the subscriptions Piefed can import the Lemmy user export, no? Or am I misremembering that being a feature already?
Yes, it imports community subscriptions, user blocks, etc.
If you are the only user, you might just use a another subdomain for Piefed, and migrate your subscriptions the account settings
No, I want to use the subdomain that I am currently on. But perhaps I can do some reverse proxy magic and host both by sending the requests to the right software? But I’m not yet sure what URLs I’d need to proxy.
You can export your lemmy account settings and then wipe the instance and install Piefed on the same domain and import your settings.
But you will lose your replies etc that way, and at least for 24h other instances will refuse to federate with your instance, but apparently after that they realize the instance has changed and will accept the new keys.
There is one former Lemmy instance that did it this way: https://quokk.au/ and apparently it works fine now.
